I will admit a slight reluctance to reading this one at first. I wasn’t too sure about a girl who was a dragon… I mean, come on… a DRAGON?! I now feel like I should go wash all of Sophie Jordan’s laundry now or something because I was completely blown away with this story. There are many forbidden love stories out there and have been since before we were all introduced to Romeo and Juliet, but this one takes it to a new level.
Jacinda is wise beyond her years for a multitude of reasons (main one... she's a draki) and I had to keep reminding myself that she was a sophomore and not a senior in high school. I love that she is written as a wise one because I teach students who are just like her and I love having that strong female lead in books I have on my shelf. Jacinda has many obstacles in her way and constantly fights with not only herself in making the right decisions but also with what is right for her family. She wants to protect them but at the same time realizes that if she lets them have their way, she will become someone she knows she was not created to be… a human.
I was wrapped in Jacinda’s story from start to finish am now pining for the second book in this series with the understanding that I will be pining for about another year… maybe I really can go wash her clothes!
